FRESH (Fresh gRoceries for Every Student’s Home) - CHILDREN'S WISHING WELL
Founded in 2002, we started as a help desk for latchkey kids. The Founder built a team that offered advice to students who seemed lost and lacked family support. Today, we provide a broad range of assistance. We offer monthly groceries, lunch pocket money and cooked dinners. Our signature program, Grant-A-Wish, helps needy students with necessities for education, health and basic living. We have thus provided spectacles, hearing aids, sports shoes or equipment, book vouchers and household items. Even fumigation services.

FRESH (Fresh gRoceries for Every Student’s Home)

In addition to providing groceries packed and delivered to homes, we organise supermarket shopping trips, where children from low-income families shop for what they really like and need, within a budget of $50 per child (budget is borne by the volunteers). They learn about nutrition, budgeting, and decision-making – skills which will have broader impact on their lives. Volunteers will teach the children how to choose nutritious and value-for-money food. Level of interaction with children is high and the time commitment is about 2 hours per session.

Step 1: Volunteer Briefing

Volunteers will attend a briefing, either online prior or in person on the day of the event to learn more about the programme flow as well on nutrition / healthy eating / budgeting.

Step 2: Volunteer-Child Pair Work

Volunteers and children to go through the shopping lists together in their pairs to ensure that items on the list meet the program requirements.

Step 3: Grocery Shopping

Volunteers will guide the student with their shopping based on the list prepared.

Step 4: Debrief

Volunteers and students to head back to the centre/meeting point for debrief and dismissal.
