Career GPS: MCI Singapore (1 Mar 2019) - CHILDREN'S WISHING WELL
Founded in 2002, we started as a help desk for latchkey kids. The Founder built a team that offered advice to students who seemed lost and lacked family support. Today, we provide a broad range of assistance. We offer monthly groceries, lunch pocket money and cooked dinners. Our signature program, Grant-A-Wish, helps needy students with necessities for education, health and basic living. We have thus provided spectacles, hearing aids, sports shoes or equipment, book vouchers and household items. Even fumigation services.

[Career GPS]

Friday 1st March 2019

Innovative. Inspiring. Interactive. Engaging. Thoughtful.

These are just some of the adjectives that we can use to describe Career GPS @ MCI Singapore😊

The time spent travelling from the West to Bendemeer was well worth it as students from Tanglin Secondary and Westwood Secondary Schools spent a fruitful afternoon at MCI. MCI staff shared candidly about their past failures as students and how they managed to overcome these failures to become who they are today. That was certainly something all of us can relate to, not just the students, but also the adults present.

Indeed, life can’t be smooth-sailing all the time, and our lovely MCI staff proved that even if one encounters an obstacle as seemingly insurmountable as scoring 40 for your Preliminary Examinations at Secondary 4-level, you can still go on to achieve what you have set out to do as long as your mind and heart are in the right place. 👍

It was not just a sit-down-and-listen kind of session too, as students had to take on the role of MCI staff and come up with a plan for a client’s birthday party and to present it as well. Other than experiencing how it was like to be a MCI staff, there were other learning points as well, such as how to work with people whom one is not familiar with, as students from both schools were grouped randomly.

The thoughtful staff from MCI even prepared for a very unique refreshment session as students were presented with the opportunity to customize their own burger sliders and root beer float! 😋

We had a most wonderful time at MCI, and this would not have been possible without the efforts put in by the staff. We would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to all staff who were involved, especially Yan Yee and Samantha, who coordinated and facilitated the entire session. 👏🎉

Till we meet again. 😊
